Carrying on with the task of making an accessible home, the student team designed the first slab-on-grade 20K Home for their client, Eddie. Putting the home on grade not only provides ease of access into and out of the home, but it also helped push forward the development of an interior tornado safe room, which they constructed of masonry. The plan of the home features three linear zones: a front porch zone stretching across the front of the home, a living zone looking out onto the porch, and a utility zone at the back of the home. A half wall in the kitchen allows the living and dining areas to flow into the kitchen, connecting the social spaces of the home and making the living area feel larger.
