The Dining House project will improve the amenities for 3rd-year students on Rural Studio’s Morrisette campus. The new integrated dining and kitchen space will be part of the campus Supershed and Pods infrastructure and will provide students a space for eating and socializing. The Dining House Team plans to reduce material consumption through an ethos of “raw, reuse, and reimagine,” using leftover or forgotten materials from past Rural Studio projects to build the structure.
The team is currently finalizing the design, which will feature a timber structure; the skin of the building will sit outboard of this sturdy skeleton. A raised concrete slab will facilitate a durable and adaptable space. It will include a thermally controlled hunker-down space for cold weather and a larger porch-like space that can be opened up in summer.
