20K Mrs. Patrick’s Home

Week 12

With three weeks until Pig Roast, we are moving quickly out here at Mrs. Patrick’s Home!  We started off the week with the rough carpentry framing the front porch of the house.

Rough carpentry also built formwork for an elevated concrete pad. This pad will serve as the first tread of the porch stars and will be poured next week.

On the side stoop of the house, Paul and our teaching assistant, Alex Therrien, installed a metal awning over the door.

The Enclosure team crossed a huge milestone off their list this week! All the siding on the house is complete. We are all very satisfied with the color and material that we chose.

At the end of the week, we had a discussion to choose a “pop” color for the house. We all came forth with ideas about a color palette, and presented them to our guest juror Elena. We also got her feedback on which skirt detail to choose. Stay tuned next week to find out the color palette and skirt!

Week 11

We started off this week how we do most weeks, on a field trip with Dick Hudgens for our history class. For every house that we tour, we do quick sketches to practice scale, proportion, and detail.

On site this week, we arrived to a pleasant surprise- sheet rock is up! Soon, interior team will get busy with the interior finishes on the house.

Everyone has been pitching in to help enclosure team put siding on the exterior of the house. Each siding panel must be cut individually to fit around windows, doors, wires, etc.

Rough framing team has been hard at work building mockups of different skirt designs for the rest of us to help choose from. The design focuses on making the house feel light and strengthen the connection to the earth.

MEP team laid all of the waste pipe and connected it to the septic tank. The drains are finally finished!

Thanks for tuning in, see you next week!
