2024 Soup Roast

The fall semester ended with Rural Studio’s annual Soup Roast event. Although it was a chilly, wet day, we had many students accomplishments to cheer about! Rural Studio was honored to host four guest consultants: Jim Adamson, Jake LaBarre, Damon Smith, and Tyler Smith. They reviewed all student projects, providing thoughtful feedback to help move the projects forward. The consultants also gave short lunchtime lectures while we all enjoyed soul-warming soup from Rural Chef Sarah. She prepared homemade chicken noodle soup and a root vegetable soup with sunchokes and sweet potatoes using produce from the Rural Studio Farm.

Soup Roast is also an opportunity to celebrate the outgoing 3rd-Year cohort. We admired their hard work on their sketchbook drawings, watercolors, and empathetic drawings of Mark’s existing home. With a flourish, the 3rd-Years also showed off the chairs created in Woodshop class. Most significantly, we congratulated these students for breaking ground on the new 3rd-Year project, Mark’s Home. Future 3rd-Years will carry this project forward and build this house for our neighbor.
